Referring to Sources

Greetings!

Below are some examples on how to refer to a certain resources. This might be useful when writing a literature review!

Theme: Brain Shrinkage

In addition, Ali Abedelahi (2013) also demonstrated that the striatum was more vulnerable to shrinkage with age in men than in women.

AWL : how to use examples

Greetings!

Here are some examples on how to use the following AWL:

1. consumption (sublist 2)

The human brain also undergoes normal changes during aging, including loss in brain weight and volume, and a global decrement in glucose metabolism, oxygen consumption, and cerebral blood flow.

One limitation of our study is that it does not include measurements of brain carbohydrate consumption beyond glucose.

2. correspond (sublist 3)

The decrease in aerobic glycolysis (AG) with age may correspond to decreases in synaptic and myelin development with age.

It is currently unknown whether aging-related regional changes in cortical myelination correspond to the regional changes in brain AG identified here.

3. reveal (sublist 6)

Comparing these data to genetic and molecular findings in humans and mechanistic findings in non-human animals may help further reveal why brain AG changes with age and reveal its consequences.

book review : Brainstorm

Greetings!

Today I read a book entitled Brainstorm, from the Atama-ii Books series. It is actually my first book from the series and I find the writing style very interesting as it uses the first person point of view in the storyline. As the story grows, the reader, as the main character, will need to make a few decisions that will lead to various endings.  I chose this book because I have some interests in human brain and thought that this book might introduce me to something new.

This particular book revolves around the story of a brain surgery on a patient with brain cancer by two scientist. The surgery is carried out by inserting the controllable nano-robots into the patient brain to find and kill cancer cells. However, in this story, the robots duplicate themselves into a very large number and starts to take control of the brain. As the main character, I chose to continue the surgery resulting in the robots to infect both the patient and my fellow colleague. Unfortunately, as I make skin contacts with the both of them, the robots entered my brain as well. To prevent the robots from getting out of the room and harm the people outside, I made a sacrifice by blowing the surgery room up and I died.

Personally, I think this book is very educating as it briefly introduced the elements such as human brain cells and nano-robots at the beginning to make the readers familiar with the terms. The writing style also deserve an applause as it makes the readers feel alert and involved in the storyline. I would suggest reading this book, and the whole series, to experience an interesting decision making while improving your English.

get to know adibah aslah

Greetings!

I am Adibah Aslah Abd Aziz, a Master`s degree 1st year student in Kumamoto University. You can call me Adibah or Adeeb (it`s shorter). I am from Malaysia. I have been living in Kumamoto for 3 years now as I did 2 years of my undergraduate studies here. I belong to the department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

There`s nothing interesting about me,actually. During my free time, I like to stay indoors watching dramas, listening to music, trying to play some instruments and sleep (i prefer this one). Although I come to study this far, my dream is to actually becoming a full time housewive and managing house chores.
